What this chapter covers

This chapter covers railway and tramway locomotives and rolling stock, track fixtures and fittings, their parts, and mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds. The scope of parts is broad: axles, wheel sets, bogies, axle boxes, brake gear, buffers, coupling gear and coachwork all belong here. Mechanical signalling is not limited to railways — equipment for roads, inland waterways, parking facilities, ports and airfields is also covered.
